How to Curl Straightened Hair
Read on to learn how to curl straightened hair with four simple steps.
Step 1: Wash, prep and straighten.
This method involves using heat on your hair not once, but twice! It’s best to use a hair care system that will help protect your hair from the damaging effects of heat. You also want this system to help fight against frizz. Opt for using Suave Keratin Infusion Smoothing Shampoo followed by Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion Smoothing Conditioner. Once you have finished washing your hair, apply Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion Heat Defense Leave-In Conditioner to protect your hair from the damaging effects of your flat iron and to reduce frizz. Once you have your leave-in conditioner in, blow-dry your hair until it is completely dry. Then, flat iron your hair straight.
Step 2: Apply heat protectant.
Since you’re now doubling up on the use of heat you need to make sure you’re protecting your strands before re-applying your hot styling tool. Spritz hair liberally with TRESemmé Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Spray. This step is re-application of a heat protectant is optional but if you have hair that is weak and prone to damage from heat, we suggest you protect your strands.
Step 3: Create your curls.
Whether you want to use a hair wand or curling iron is totally up to you and the look you are after. Divide your hair into two to four sections and begin curling 1-inch subsections of hair starting from the back and pin curl each curl to set as you work your way around.
Step 4: Set your curls in place with hairspray.
It’s now time to set it and forget it—but you want your curls to have a bit of bounce at the end of your styling session! A hairspray that provides flexible hold like Dove Style +Care Strength and Shine Flexible Hold Hairspray will do just that. After allowing your curls to cool for about a minute or two, release all of your pin curls, finger-comb your hair thoroughly to separate and style, then spray liberally with the hairspray to lock in your new look.
